„How sweet it would be to gnaw carrots, turnips, cucumbers like a bunny.”
How many times we hear this imperative! But what’s in the mind of teenage students when they hear this sentence? Maybe it’s: „Blah, blah, blah… I don’t care! I eat what I love the most!” Or this is: „Oh, now! I’m tired of everyone nagging me with this. I will have plenty of time to deal with this. I’m young and healthy, so I don’t care!”
I think there are few young people who take the above-mentioned call seriously.
But why is that so? Why don’t today’s young people care about healthy eating? Let’s look at the reasons:
– It’s trendy and fashionable to eat in fast food restaurants and post it on social media, share pictures so that you can tell the whole world: “I’m here and here and eat delicious food!”
– Laziness. It’s hard to get up 5-10 minutes earlier in the morning and make a sandwich. (Although your parents have of course already bought everything you need to make a sandwich, you only need to open the fridge and there they are.)
– Or how embarrassing it would be to chew carrots, kohlrabi or cucumbers like a rabbit.
But if they only knew the secret, which I do, that a home-made sandwich, wrapped in a napkin, has a magical power! Why do I think so? Because with a sandwich, we take to school the love of home, the care and nurturing with us. When we eat a sandwich, we can think of our mom or dad who grew or bought that cucumber, radish or lettuce. Or our granny who baked that fresh, fragrant bun or roll. And just think how good it feels to bite into a sandwich made with so much love and care! We can feel that we are not alone in the world. We have our family by our side, someone we can always count on. And when we take that little “love packet” out of the lunch box during a hard day, we can feel the sense of peace and love.
Try it! I recommend it to everyone! Believe me, you won’t regret it! Replace those carbohydrate-rich pastries! Make the healthiest sandwich in the world, wrap it in the love of home and have a wonderful day!
