„I’m much more sensitive to respiratory dust and pollen.”
First of all, I must mention that I have so many diseases that my medical papers can be measured in centimetres. What has happened to me? How do I live my days? How do I live healthier? The answer to this question is difficult to include on an A/4 page. I’ll try anyway.
I came into the world a little earlier than the doctor had planned, so I was getting stronger in an incubator for a while. My movement and development were different from those of my peers. My pituitary gland hasn’t fully developed, so I have motor coordination problems. But I’ll write about it later. I didn’t have anything to say until I was four. My parents loved me the way I was, even though I developed at a different pace than other children of my age.
Since my mom was a foster parent, a chatty little girl came into our family. She helped me a lot and then I talked so much that later my classmates said on one of the trips:
„Endi, if you don’t shut up, we’re going to hit you with a suitcase now!”
My parents used to say I should be a reporter or a TV announcer.
I was allergic to hot and cold until I was a year or two old. They couldn’t take me out, they couldn’t even sledge me because I got protein rashes on my face and my throat got swollen. I was choking. The doctor said that the difference in temperature inside and outside should not exceed 15 degrees Celsius, because then I could choke.
Then came the milk allergy, but by the time it came out, I had spent every birthday in hospital. Vomiting, stomach pain, bloating, headache were the usual symptoms. I couldn’t eat dairy products for two years. Not even chocolate! Neither Túró Rudi! Maybe I would grow out of it. I finally did. We found out that all I had left was lactose intolerance. We went straight to the shopping centre, and I bought myself a bar of chocolate and started crying. Nobody can understand this but my fellows. I take lactose drops to treat my intolerance. If I ever forgot to take the drop, well, then as if there was a devil in my panties and a brown bear in my pants!
Allergy tests revealed that the average child had an IgA level of 0-100. Of course, I’m better here again, with 1713. This means that I am much more sensitive to respiratory substances and dust and pollen. I take medication and use nasal spray to control this. I’m not going to make a big deal out of it, however. The only thing that hurts is that I can’t go over to granny’s house and sleep there because they have mold in their house, and it’s going to make me choke, but they can’t help it.
When I was in grade 2, a week before Christmas, I suddenly collapsed. I had suffered such a mental shock that my body couldn’t bear it. I became epileptic. For three years, I had to go to hospital every three months on Fridays for blood tests and EEG. Because of epilepsy, I can only ride a bike in the presence of an adult, and I can’t climb ropes. I can’t bathe alone, not even in the bathtub. I’ve been off my medication for six months now, but I have to follow the instructions, because it can come back any time. For example, I have to drink a lot of water and do a lot of exercise. I need to have enough rest, so I have to go to bed at 8:00 p.m., and I have to avoid any unnecessary stress. I do all these things and I think everything’s going to be okay, as I do everything I can.
All in all, I can tell you that a child as special as me has to deal with special difficulties. My life is like a fairy tale. I’m the good Endi who overcomes obstacles! „I think… It’s possible!” (Fanni Mészáros)
